Genetics on offer include the late Somerset Arequipa King (second in the National Peruvian Show and sire of many Australian champions), Surtierra Arequipa Syrah (MF), a King boy, who is producing a range of exquisite colours and quality fleece; Cambridge Cirello (MG); Indigo Kamahl (SBK); Elysion Memphis (RG) and Alpacapartners Bonaparte (RG). Surilana Windslip (LG) is a recent addition to our herd and this is the first ever release of his genetics. (Not available for outside matings.)
Deb Nanschild, who manages the herd, is a direct descendant of the original camel drivers who operated in outback SA. Her family helped establish the Hotel Motel and Trading Post at Innamincka in the late 1960s and early 1970s when camel herds were smaller commercial enterprises. Deb had organised camel treks prior to being introduced to alpacas. She now incorporates modules on “What we can learn about Leadership from Alpacas” in her professional workshops and programs.
Camelids are in Deb’s bloodline and she cannot imagine living without them. She is keen to share the joy of being amongst a group of alpacas.

Suriterra Arequipa Syrah

Surilana Windslip
The main influence on the Indigo herd over the last few years has been Somerset Arequipa King. With his unfortunate and untimely death earlier this year (please read more), Indigo is now using his son, Surtierra Arequipa Syrah, as the main stud male for the herd, along with the genetics of Surilana Windslip.
Indigo also breed quality black and grey huacaya featuring Elysion Memphis, a roan with consistently outstanding progeny. He has thrown all colours with his most recent progeny a stunning dark grey.
Packages are available for new breeders whilst different genetics are available to those already breeding suri.

Washed fleece
Breeders of coloured alpaca are forever being surprised by what comes out when you least expect it! Whilst black is the dominant colour, most of us are dealing with the recessive gene that provides all other colours, with white being 'at the end of the line'. Every alpaca has a dominant colour and a secondary colour. As more progeny are produced it becomes easier to guess the likely outcome of matings.
Talk to Deb to discuss your possible colour combinations. It sure makes breeding alpacas fun!
Indigo Alpacas has coordinated the first ever bale of suri fleece for auction in Australia. The bale goes up for auction in mid December.
A brown bale is on its way with more to come.
If interested in being part of this venture, please contact Deb.

Somerset Arequipa King
Somerset Arequipa King was a famous solid dark fawn suri who significantly influenced and improved the Australian coloured suri herd. He had over a hundred progeny before his death and therefore his lineage will continue through these animals.
